Know all men by these presents, that I Francis F Conway, of the County of Albemarle and State of Virginia, do hereby Manumit, Set free, and absolve from all duty to use as a Slave, my negro man, John which I lately purchased of Edwin Conway, per his bill of Sale dated 20th day of November 1833, and of records in Albemarle County Court – said negro man John is about 5 feet 8 inches in height, light complexion, a scar on the forehead over the right eye, the little finger of right hand Crooked & is about 56 years of age. But I emancipate him upon the express condition, that he Shall leave the Commonwealth of Virginia, within three months from this date, unless prevented by Sickness or other unavoidable accident, and if he Shall fail to do so, then his right to freedom Shall be wholly forfeited, and the title of
Said Slave Shall be revested in me upon Such failure, as fully as if this deed of Manumission had never been made. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal, this 30th day of April 1834
