Know all men by these presents that I Nehemiah Norton of the State of Virginia and County of Pittsylvania being fully convinced of the inequity of keeping Negroes in a slavish bondage do by these presents emancipate discharge and give the following Negroes all the privileges of the free Citizens of this state agreeable to an Act of Assembly in that case made and provided. Their names are as followeth. Toney, Priss, Isaac, William, Shadrick, Sam, Meshech, Janny. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 18thday of April 1785.

At a court held for Pittsylvania County the 18th day of April 1785 The within written emancipation was by the within named Nehemiah Norton acknowledged to be his act and deed, and on his motion the same was ordered to be recorded.
