Be it known to all whom it may concern that I Benjamin Whitesides of the county of Amherst for divers good causes and considerations hereunto moving but especially for love and affection I bear to negro woman Betty and her child Polly at present my slaves by purchases from a certain Reuben Pendleton do hereby represent for myself my heirs Executors and Administrators set free liberate and emancipate from slavery the said negro Betty and her child Polly and do by these presents forever discharge the said Betty and child from slavery. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this this 21st day of April 1801.
