To all whom it may Concern I Joshua Shelton of Amherst County from a sure Conviction that all mankind are by nature equally free and that it is contrary to the law of the blessed Jesus to hold any part of the human species in slavery I do in pursuance to an Act of the Assembly of Virginia passed for the manumission of Slaves truly liberate the following Negroes at the twenty first of January one thousand seven hundred and ninety three Benjamin and Jean and Cate. I do hereby relinquish all my right and title and claims to the said negroes at the time above said in witness whereof I do hereunto let my hand and seal this twenty first of January one thousand seven hundred and ninety three

At a court held for Amherst County the twenty first day of January one thousand Seven hundred and ninety three this Deed of Emancipation was Acknowledged in open court by Joshua Shelton to be his act and Deed and ordered to be recorded.
