Text of Freedom Document

To all persons to whom these presents shall come know ye that I Thomas Cocke of
the County of Prince George Virginia have manumitted
and set free from the date hereof a female
Negro slave named Hannah now residing in the Town
Of Alexandria in the district of Columbia at this time
my property about the age of twenty six And I do
hereby for myself my Heirs executors & adms. forever exonerate
and discharge the said slave her child & her
further increase from all claims which I or they may
have to her services.
In testimony I have here unto
set my hand & seal this 5th day of April one thousand
eight hundred & six.

At a United States Circuit Court of the District of Columbia Continued and held for the County of Alexandria

This Deed of Emancipation from Thomas Cocke, to negroe Hannah was proved by the Oath of Jacob Hoffman
to be the act and Deed of the said Thomas Cocke, & ordered to be Certified.
