Know all men by these hands that I Elizabeth Donaldson for divers good causes and considerations me
thereunto moving more especally for and in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds current money of
Virginia to me in hand paid by Joe a slave belonging unto me the said Elizabeth Donaldson at or before the
sealing a delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have emancipated &
manumitted and liberated and by these presents do Emancipate manumit and liberate the said Joe and free and
discharge him from all further service to be rendered unto me the said Elizabeth Donaldson my heirs executors
administrators or assigns and I the said Elizabeth Donaldson do for myself my Heirs executors and
administrators covenant grant and agree to and with the said Joe that he shall at all times for ever hereafter be
discharged from all further service to be rendered unto me the said Elizabeth Donaldson my heirs executors
administrators or assigns in witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at this [first?] day of July-
one thousand and seven hundred and ninety six

This Deed of Manumision and receipt from Elizabeth Donaldson to Negro Joe was proved to be the act and
deed of the said Elizabeth by the Oath of William Hartshorne and ordered to be certified.

thereunto moving more especally for and in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds current money of
