Know all men by these presents that I Wilson C. Hewitt of Bedford County and State of Virginia
do hereby emancipate and set free forever my negro slave man named Davis about 65 years of
age. Witness my hand and seal this 27th day of May 1861.

I John B. Crenshaw a Notary Public for the County aforesaid in the State aforesaid do
certify that Wilson C. Hewitt whose name is signed to the writing above bearing the date the 27th
of May 1861 has acknowledged the same before me in my County aforeseaid. Given under my
hand as Notary Public this 27th day of May 1861.

At a Court of Quarterly Sessions held for Bedford County at the Courthouse the 27th day of May
1861
This deed of emancipation from Wilson C. Hewitt to Davis his late slave was produced in
Court and together the certificate thereto annexed order to be recorded
