To all whom these presents shall come greeting; no you that in pursuance of the provisions of the
last will and testament of Charles Lambert late of the county of Bedford in the state of Virginia
deceased of whom I William A White of said county and the sole acting executor the other
executives nominated in the said last will and testament to wit Thomas Sales and David Douglas
having declined to qualify as such; either said William A White the acting executor aforesaid to
hereby assent the legacy of freedom bequeathed in the said last will and testament to the
following persons of colour late slaves of the said decedent, but in virtue of the said last will and
testament and of these presents are now entitled to their freedom namely David, Randolph senior
Randolph junior Peter Hank, Jordan, Ishans, Billy, Albert, Ben, Alvin, Calohill, Spottswood,
Bob, Lewis, James, Hawkins, Aggy, Amy, Caroline, Nancy, Lucinda, Milly, Alice,
Mary Anne, Martha, Matilda, Nelly, Catherine and Frances also Caroline, Amanda and
Alexander children of Nancy also George and Watson children of Lucinda also Nancy child of
Caroline born since the death of the said decedent. In testimony whereof I have hereunto put my
hand and seal the 23rd day of September 1843.

We Thomas Sale and Martin P Burke justices of the peace for the county of Bedford in the state
of Virginia do hereby certify that on this day William A. White acting executor of Charles
Lambert decd. party to a certain deed bearing date this day to wit the 23rd of September 1843
and here to annex came personally before us in our county aforesaid, and acknowledge the same
to be truly his act indeed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the clerk of the
county of Bedford aforesaid in order that the said deed may be there recorded given under our
hands and seals the 23rd day of September 1843.

At a court held for Bedford County at the courthouse the 25th day of September 1843. This deed
of emancipation from William A White executor of Charles Lambert deceased to David and
others was produced in court and together with a certificate of acknowledgement thereto annexed
ordered to be recorded.
