In the name of God Amen. I Sally Medley of the county of Bedford in state of Virginia calling to
mind the uncertainty of life do hereby make and ordain this my last will and testament hereby
revoking and annulling all other and forever wills by me heretofore made in manner and form
following, First it is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid by my
executors hereinafter named as soon after my decease as circumstances will admit, out of any of my
estate. Secondly, it is my will and desire after my death that all my slaves to wit; Dick and his wife
Winney, Humphrey, Rhoda, and her two children George and Nathan, Solomon, Betty, Manson,
James, Wingfield and Ned together with the future increase if any of the females be discharged from
bondage emancipated and set free.
Thirdly, it is my will and desire that my executor sell as soon after my death as may seem prudent,
the whole of my lands, stock of every kind, plantation utensils and every other part of my estate
(except the slaves as above) upon a reasonable credit such as they may think is most prudent and
collect the debts due me from any sources whatever and the net proceeds arising therefrom to be
equally divided between the whole of my slaves (and their increase if any) remaining at my death.
Fourthly, as is likely from the laws of Virginia that my slaves as above named after my death will
have to remove out of the state of Virginia, it is my will, and desire that my executor render them
such necessary assistance in preparation V removal as will enable them to go to a free state and that
my said executors received such compensation for their trouble as is just and right.
Fifthly I nominate, constitute, and appoint my two friends William Dickinson and William Mead
