Know all men by these presents that I Robert Jackson of the County of Bedford and State of
Virginia for doing good causes and consideration me thereunto moving have manumitted
,emancipated and set free and by these presents do manumit, emancipate and forever set free
from the bonds of slavery my negro woman slave named Martha sometimes called Martha
Jackson and her child John Williams, and I hereby declare her the said Martha and her child John
Williams to be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the rights and privileges of free
persons from the date of these presents. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
affixed my seal the 26th day of October one thousand eight hundred and forty.

This deed of emancipation was produced in Court acknowledged by Robert Jackson a party
