Wills Book 7, Pgs 453-454
In the name of God Amen- I Thomas Whittington Jr. of the County of Bedford bring this the
mercy of Divine providence, in perfect mind and memory, but taking into the uncertantity of life,
do make and ordain this my last will and testament. My body I commit to the earth hoping
through the mediation of my Saviour Jesus Christ that I shall again receive it at the resurrection
of the just, and that I may be made through his saving grace an humble partaker of the Kingdom
of God . As touching my worldly estate : I dispose of the same in the following manner- I will
direct that all my just debts
454
Be paid and for the purpose I charge the whole of my real as well as personal.
Second- I give and devise unto my beloved Aunt Judith Brown, and to my cousin Susannah
Cavanaugh for and during their lives and for the life of the survivor of them, to be enjoyed in
common, the whole of my estate of whatever nature or kind real and personal. Third- It is my
will that my slaves living at my death, and the increase of the females, after the death of my Aunt
and cousin to whom I have given them for their lives, and the life of the survivor of them shall be
emancipated and forever set free. Fourth- After my said slaves shall be emancipated under this
my will, I give and bequeath them to be enjoyed in common, the remainder in my hands devised
for my life to my aunt and cousin, and also whatever of personal estate may remain.
I appoint my friend William Oglesby, Daniel Oglesby, and Captain James Markham Executors
of this my will and having the most implicit confidence in them I desire that they may be
permitted to qualify without giving security.
I witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 14th June in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred fourteen
