Emancipation Davies’s Negroes
To all to whom these presents shall come Nicholas Davies do send greeting: Know Ye, that the said Nicholas Davis fo the County of Bedford do here by liberate the following slaves together with their Increase born & to be born forever (to wit: Billy, Nancy, Eady, Isa, Matilda, Jacob, King, Will, Lucy, Phobe, Godfrey, Pompey, Young Scotland, Sarah, Isaac, Any, Titus, Isham, George & Judy, In Testimony ~ whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 26th day of March 1794 ---------- Nicholas Davis {LS} [Seal]
Signed sealed & Delivered on the presents of us James Scott, James Dewitt, Sam Holt Thomas Dillon Abraham Wandell Aaron Dewitt, William Finney [marked with an x]} The (blothes) peace on the above writing was done by me Nicholas Davies at a court held for Bedford County the 23rd day of June 1794 ______ This instrument of writing emancipating certain slaves the property of Nicholas Davies was prosed by th Oath of James Scott & Samuel Holt witnesses whose names are there unto subscribed & Ordered to be recorded.
