This deed made this the 24th day of September 1860, between David Roder, of the city of Lynchburg in the State of Virginia of the first
part, and George (a negro about fifty five years old heretofore, and now
the property of the said David Roder) parties of the second part witnessith that for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred
dollars to him the said David Rodes in hand paid by James McElvry and Caroline Shackleford (wife of the said George) party of the second part, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said David Rodes doth hereby grant unto him the said George his freedom and doth manumit
and discharge from slavery, and from all right and claim to the services of him the said George, and doth forever grant to the said George all the estate and property which he may here after acquire or obtain.
Witness the following signature and seal the day and date above written

for the City of Lynchburg, September 24th 1860, this deed of emancipation from David Rodes to George, was this day acknowledged
before the clerk by the said David Rodes, and was thereupon admitted to record.
