Know all men by these presents that I Sampson Diuguid of the Town of Lynchburg executor of Jane Massie
deceased in pursuance of the last will and Testament of the said Jane Massie deceased which has been
admitted to probate in the Corporation Court for the Corporation of Lynchburg, have emancipated and set free,
and by these presents do emancipate and set free a negro man slave named Billy, of whom the said Jane
Massie was possessed at the time of her death, and who by her said last will and testament she directed her
Executor to emancipate and set free. And I the said Sampson Diuguid Executor as aforesaid do hereby declare
the said negro man Billy to be entirely liberated from slavery and entitled to all the rights and privileges of a
free person of colour with which it is in my power, as Executor aforesaid, and under the provisions of said last
will and testament, to invest him.
As witness my hand and seal this 30th day of July 1851.

Corporation of Lynchburg, to wit:
I Henry M. Didlake a justice of the peace for the Corporation aforesaid,
in the state of Virginia, do certify that Sampson Diuguid whose
name is signed to the writing above bearing date on the 30th day of July 1851
has acknowledged the same before me in my corporation aforesaid.
Given under my hand this 5th day of August 1851.
