Know all men by these presents that I Henry Lazenby, four given good consideration me thereto
moving, have emancipated and set free and by these presents do emancipate set free and forever
discharge from service as slaves a negro woman name Martha another child James (Martha being
aged about twenty three years and another child about two years old) and I do here by covenant
and promise that I will never exact further services from said woman and child, but from the date
hereof they shall be free to the same extent and in the same manner as though they had been born
free. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 1st day of February 1857.

In the clerks office of the court of the corporation of Lynchburg February 1st, 1857. This deed
was acknowledged before the clerk by Henry Lazenby party grantor thereto and thereupon was
admitted to record.
