Know all men by these presents, that I Mary Eliz'th [Elizabeth] Harrison of Columbia, State of Tennessee, for
and in consideration of the general good conduct of my slave Betsy, the wife of Martin Warrick, during the
whole period of her service in my family, but especially for [illegible] account of her unremitting attention,
and faithful services as a nurse during the last illness of both of my deceased Parents, I do hereby liberate,
emancipate, and set free from all manner of servitude during her natural life, the aforesaid Betsy Warrick, wife
of Martin Warrick--free from all manner of claim or claims of myself my heirs &c [etc.]. and free from the
claim or claims of all persons claiming by thro' or under me-- leaving her to exercise and enjoy all the rights
and privileges of a free person as far as she is permitted to do so by the laws of the State of Virginia. In
testimony whereof I hereto set my hand and seal, at Columbia--State of Tennessee, on the 14th day of April
1849.

Mary Elizabeth Harrison (Seal) State of Tennessee--Maury County Sct [scilicet, to wit]:
We Joseph Herndon and Anthony Gohlston Justices of the Peace in and for the county of Maury, in the State
of Tennessee, do hereby certify, that Mary Elizth. Harrison, a party to a certain deed of Emancipation, bearing
date the 14th day of April 1849 and hereto annexed, personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid,
and acknowledged the same to be her act and deed, and desired us to certify the said acknowledgment to the
Clerk of the Corporation Court of Lynchburg, in the State of Virginia, in order that the same may be recorded.
In witness whereof we hereto set our hands & seals this 14th day of April 1849.

In the Hustings Court of Lynchburg May 7th 1849.
The foregoing deed of emancipation being filed with certificate of acknowledgement endorsed was ordered to
be recorded.
