Know all men by these presents that I Judith A. Royall of the Town of Lynchburg and State of
Virginia for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred to me in hand paid the receipts
whereof I do hereby acknowledge have manumitted and set free from slavery and do hereby
manumit and set free from slavery my negro woman Emma Williams aged 33 years and do
hereby give grant and release unto the said Emma Williams all my rights title and claim in and to
her person, labor and services and of in and to all the estate and property which she may
hereafter acquire or obtain. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3rd day
of October 1849.

in the Lynchburg Hustings Court, October 5th 1849 the foregoing deed was presented and

thereto being moved by the oath of Wm. R Holcomb and Tom B Roane subscribing witness
thereto.
