Know all men by these presents that I, John M. Speed, of the town of Lynchburg,
for and in consideration of the sum of five Hundred dollars to wit in hand paid,
the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have emancipated and set free, and by
these presents, do emancipate and set Fanny Randolph and her infant daughter Frances
(being the slaves purchased by me of the Estate of the late Fortanatas Sydnor).
And I do hereby bind myself, my Heirs &c [etc.] to warrant and defend the title in
and to the said Fanny and her daughter, free from the claim or claims of myself, my
Heirs &c and free from the claim or claims of all and every person or persons [illegible]
by, through or under me.
In witness whereof, I hereto set my Hand & seal the 6th day of September 1843.

Corporation of Lynchburg to wit:
We David J. Warwick and David R. Lyman
Justices of the peace in & for said Corporation, do hereby certify, that John M. Speed,
party to a certain deed of emancipation, bearing date on this day and hereto
annexed, personally appeared before us, in our said Corporation, and acknowledged
the same to be his act and deed, and desired us to certify his said acknowledgment
to he Clerk of the Hustings Court for this Corporation, in order that the said
deed may be recorded.
Given under our Hands & seals the 6th day of September 1843.

At a Court of Hustings held for the town of Lynchburg at the Court house
in said town on the 2nd day of October 1843
This deed of Emancipation from Jno [John] M. Speed to Fanny
Randolph and her infant daughter Frances was acknowledged, in
open Court by said Speed, and ordered to be recorded.
A Copy Teste Jas [James] Benagh C. [Clerk]
for and in consideration of the sum of five Hundred dollars to wit in hand paid,
