Know all men by these presents that I John Hollins of the town of Lynchburg for and in consideration of
divers causes me thereunto moving, have emancipated and set free and by these presents do emancipate and
forever set free, my negro man slave named Isham, commonly called Isham Bird. And I the said John Hollins
for myself my heirs executors and administrators do hereby forever release and relinquish to the said Isham all
claim whatsoever, either to his person or his services, and all and every duty on his part further to serve or
obey me as his master or owner--And I the said John Hollins for myself my heirs executors and administrators
do hereby further covenant and agree to and with the said Isham, that he the said Isham shall and may from
this time henceforth enjoy freely and fully all the privileges and immunities of a free man of colour, free from
the claim of myself my heirs, executors and administrators and free from the claim of all and every other
person or persons claiming by, from, through or under me. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and affixed my Seal this 29th day of June 1841 signed sealed & acknowd.

This deed of emancipation from John Hollins to Isham Bird was this day proved in open court by the oaths of
J Wills and Wm [William] H Ogden and ordered to be recorded
