Text of Freedom Document

I William Davis Junr. [Junior] of the Town of Lynchburg
being fully persuaded from mature, deliberate, consideration
and the conviction of my own mind, That Freedom
is the natural right of all mankind and that
no Law moral or divine has given me a right
to a property in the persons of any of my fellow
creatures and being desirous to fulfil [fulfill] the Injunctions
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by doing unto
others as I would be done by do therefore declare that
having in my possession a negro man Slave named
Archer about Thirty two years of age I do hereby for
myself and my heirs my Exors and Administrators release
unto the said Archer all my right Interest and
claim or pretentions of claim whatsoever to his
person or to any Estate he may hereafter acquire,
without any interruption from me or any person
for or under me In witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand & seal this the 1st day of the 4th month 1822.

Lynchburg at the Court House on Monday the 1st day
of April 1822. The within deed of emancipation from
William Davis Jr to Archer was this day acknowledged
in open Court by said William Davis Jr & ordered to be
recorded.
