Know all men by these presents that I
George Whitlocke for & in consideration of the
good conduct, extraordinary merit, and valuable
services of a negroe man Arthur, formerly the
property Edward Johnston, from whom I purchased
him, have this day granted to the said Arthur his
freedom, & by these presents so warrant unto him his
freedom against the claims of my heirs executors &c [etc.] and
against the claims of every person whatever. Witness my
hand & seal this 15th day of July 1819
Geo. Whitlocke (Seal) - Lynchburg, Hustings Court Office July 15th 1819.
The within deed of emancipation
from Geo: Whitlocke to Arthur, a negro man
was this day acknowledged by the said Whitlocke
and admitted to record.
