Know all men by these presents then I Charles Lacy (a coloured man of the county of Campbell)
and within the bounds of the corporation of Lynchburg for diverse causes and considerations me
thereto moving but more particularly for the discreet and prudent conduct of Fanny Lacy my
wife who I sometime ago I go purchased of William Byrd of Lynchburg these are therefore to
testify that are Charles Lacy for the reason before do fully and freely emancipate and set free the
said Fanny agreeable to an act of afrembly in that case made of provided in witnesses whereof
there of I have hereto set my hand and seal to this third day of October in the year of our lord
