I William C. Connor of the town of Lynchburg County of Campbell State of Virginia believing
freedom and liberty the natural rights of all mankind, and dreams of confering as far as maybe in
my person by the injunction of and for our Jesus Christ to do unto all men as we would they
should do unto us in like circumstances and living lawfully change the perfection and rights of
property of the following negroes Lans, from a light complexion negro man about thirty three or
four years old middle size about five feet eight inches high, Peggy 24 or 25 years old middle size
and dark complexion- Tom a child of the above 3 or 4 years old light complexion- Ben a man of
dark complexion and about thirty four or five years old, stout will set negro 5 feet 6 or 7 inches
high- Chasey- wife of Ben perhaps 36 or 37 years old. Middle size dark complexion.
JenneyChild of the above 4 or 5 years old. Anna child of the above 2 or 3 years old and Salley 3
months old. It is my wish and desire that the aforesaid negroes may enjoy all the privileges of
freedom from and after this day.

Now be it known that for and in consideration of the premise. I the said Wm. C. Conner do by
these presents relinquish and give up from and after the present day) all manner of rights as is by
law or otherwise given me in and to the said negroes Viz, Toni, Peggy, Tom, Chasey, Ben Jenny,
Anna and Sally and do moreover emancipate and give liberty to the said negroes forever ____
whereof these hereunto set my hand and seal this fifth day of June One thousand eight hundred
and twelve.
