I Samuel Schoolfield of the town of Lynchburg believing freedom and liberty the natural right of
all Mankind and desirous of fearing as far as may be in my power the injunction of our Lord and
savior Jesus Christ to do unto all men as we would they should do unto us in like circumstances
and having lawfully obtained the possession and right of property of a mulatto woman named
Bridget whom it is my desire may enjoy all the privileges of freedom from and after the first day
of January next Ensuing now be it known that for and in consideration of the principles of the
said Samuel Schoolfield do by these present relinquish And give up from and after the said first
day of January next all manner of right as in by law or otherwise given me in and to the said
woman Bridget and from and after the date aforesaid so moreover emancipate And give liberty
as far as the law of the state will permit to the said Bridget forever. In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and seal this 4th day of July 1811. Eleven
