Know all men by these presents, that I Elizabeth L. Brown of the County of Campbell & State of Virginia for
divers Consideration we hereunto moving do hereby emancipate & set free my Negro man slave, George by
name, also my Negro woman, Jane by name, aged 31 years together with her children four in number, one a
boy, Spencer by name, three girls, Betty Lee, Martha Ann, & Nelly Walker by name and their future increase,
at my death. Securing to myself the benefit of their services during my natural life, and this deed of
emancipation to take effect at my death. Witness my hand & seal this 21st day of October 1857.

State of Va. Campbell County to wit. I Bolen Cock a Justice of the peace in, and for the County aforesaid do
hereby certify that Elizabeth L Brown whose name is signed to the writing above bearing date on the 21st day
of October 1857 has acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid. Given under my hand this
21st day of October 1857.

At a Court held for Campbell County, at the Courthouse, Nov 9th 1857. The foregoing deed was presented, in
Court, and with the certificates, admitted to record.
