I Matilda Patterson of Campbell County do you make this my last will and testament as
followeth- it is my wish and desire that my four slaves Bob, Janney, and her two children
McCredie and Perlina Be sent to some colony, country, or state which does not hold slaves. I
desire that my executor hereafter named see that is faithfully carried into execution at the time
which may be deemed most advisable and convenient not exceeding ten years from the date of
my death. It may be necessary to hire out the said slaves for the purpose of raising funds to
defray the necessary expenses of transporting and subsisting for a short space of time after
settlement. I give to my Grand Daughter Martha Ann Patterson a bed and furniture- all the
balance of my property which I hold on my own right I wish divided equally between my sons
Alexander Patterson and D.B. Pattersons family but not to be subject to the debts or contracts of
the said D.B. Patterson any surplus hire occurring from said- slaves over and above what may be
necessary for the purpose above named I wish to be divided as above. Lastly I constitute and
appoint Alexander Patterson executor to this my last will and testament and desire that no
security be required of him. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 29th
day of July 1833.

Acknowledged in the presence of Susan A. Patterson Mary D Patterson At a Court continued and
held for Campbell County June 14th 1836 This last will and testament of Matilda Patterson
deceased was presented in court proved by the oath of Susan Patterson the surviving witness
thereto who also testified to the handwriting of Mary Patterson deceased the other witness
thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded.
