Under the influence of humane feelings, conscious of the rectitude of the thing in itself and
authorized by the act of Assembly which declares it lawful for individuals to emancipate Slaves I
Sam. K. Jinnings did agree to purchase a man slave Toby Now being about forty years of age,
and a woman Slave Sally about thirty five years of age with an intention to emancipate them
according to the rules and regulations of the Methodist Episcopal Church. This purchase was
made some more than two years ago, and a bill of emancipation has been accordingly drawn, but
without any improper intention has not yet been committed to Record. Inasmuch therefore as the
last General Assembly have passed and act , which goes to the prevention of future liberation,
but have allowed a few months, no doubt for the purpose of completing any such deed of tender
conscience, this is to declare the intention as if it had been completely transacted prior to the
passing of the late law aforesaid VVZ, That my man Toby and woman Sally afornamed are
hereby emancipated from the chains of slavery, but are remain in my service until the first day of
January one thousand eight hundred and fifteen, and I do hereby for myself my heirs V
relinquish all right and title to the person or labour of the said Slaves Toby and Sally from and
after the first day of January 1815. Given under my hand and seal this 14th day of April eighteen
hundred and six.
Sam. K. Jinnings seal
At a Court held for Campbell County April 14th 1806
The within manumission was acknowledged by Samuel K. Jinnings party thereto and ordered to
be recorded
