Be it known to all to whom these presents may come that under authority of an act of the General
Assembly of Virginia passed in December 1792 granting to individuals the right of emancipating
slaves, I Samuel K Jinnings of New London, Campbell County Va believing that God hath of
one blood made all nations of the earth, and according to our excellent Bill of Rights, that all are
equally entitled to the blessings of liberty, do therefore by these presents give up all right and
title which I now have or may hereafter ever have to the person or property of my negroe man
John Charlson now thirty nine years old, late the property of Rev’d Stith Mead, but by him
transferred to me by virtue of a bill of sale. He the said John Charlson is therefore to be
considered a freeman from and after the sealing and delivery of these presents. Given under my
hand and seal this ninth day of April 1806.

At a Court held for Campbell County April 14th 1806.
The within Manumission was acknowledged by Samuel K Jinnings party thereto and ordered to
be recorded.
