Be it known to all whome [whom] it may concern that I John Schoolfield of the county of Campbell Town of
Lynchburg & State of Virginia, Influenced by considerations of natural Justice, & the Sacred Injunctions of
doing unto others as I would they should do unto me which induce to esteem it contrary to my duty to retain a
Fellow Being in Slavery & impressed with the propriety of acting in conformity to this sacred Duty, do hereby
according to the Acts of Assembly in that case made & provided, liberate emancipate & entirely set at liberty
one Black Woman named Polly (who in future shall be known and call'd Polly James) after she shall arrive to
the age of eighteen which will happen on the nineteenth day of October next. I do hereby bind myself my
Heirs &c, & will do every act which may be in my power to guarantee to her the sd Polly James the full
enjoyment of Liberty so far as it may depend on the Title of me & my Heirs In testimony whereof I have
hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 10th day of August 1804
