We Charles Lynch, John Lynch, and Samuel Mitchell from a full conviction that all men are by
nature free as agreeable to an Act of the Assembly of this state emancipate a negro woman
named Nan, but seeing that she is above the age of forty five, We do enter ourselves as Securities
that she shall not become chargeable to the public. In witness whereunto we do hereunto set on
our hands and seals this 23rd day of August 1792…
