I Achilles Douglas of Orange County being full persuaded that freedom is the natural right of all
mankind and that it is my duty to do to others as I would desire to be done by in the like situation
and having under my care one negroe woman named Cate aged about fifty years I hereby
Emancipate and set free the said negro and do for myself my heirs Executors Administrators
relinquish all my right Title Interest and claim or pretention of claim whatsoever Either to her
person or to any estate she may hereafter acquire. And having also under my care two negroes
more in their minority of the following names and ages Viz Humphrey about seventeen and
Cupid about eight years of age whom I also Emancipate and set free and do for myself my heirs
Executors and Administrators relinquish all my right Title Interest and claim of Pretensions of
claim whatsoever either to their persons or any estate they may acquire after they shall attain the
age of Twenty one years thereof the said negroes shall enjoy their freedom in as full and ample
manner as if they had been born of free parents without any interruption from me or any persons
claiming forby from or under me, I witness whereof I have hereunto set me hand and seal the 2nd
day of the 5 month , In the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty three

At a court held for Campbell County May1783This Manumission was proved by oath of Willaim Carver and the solemn affirmation of William
Ferral (being one of the People called Quakers) and ordered to be recorded.
