Know all men by these presents that I
Eliza W. Cocke of the county Isle of Wight
have emancipated, manumitted, and set free
and by these presents do manumit, emanc-
cipate and set free a negroe woman
name named Emeline and sometimes cal-
led Emeline Stringfield, together with her
two children Nancy Jane and Mary
Louisa. And I do hereby declare her the said
Emeline and her said two children Nancy
Jane and Mary Louisa to be entirely libera-
ted from slavery and entitled to all the rights
and priviledges of free persons with which
it is in my power to invest them. The said
Emeline hereby emancipated is of a mulat-
toe complexion about five feet 1/4 inches
high and will be about thirty years old on
the first day of April next, and her said child
Nancy Jane about six and Mary Louisa
about five years old at the same time.
Given under my hand and seal this 30th day
of December in the year 1849.
