Text of Freedom Document
I Josiah F. Wrenn of the County of Isle of Wight and State of Virginia do make
the following as & for my last will & testament, to wit:
I Emancipate and set free my woman Louisa & her two children Sally Ann
and Elisha Frederick & her future offspring to take effect at my death
I give to Louisa two hundred dollars, I give to each of her two children Sally Ann
and Elisha Frederick the sum of two hundred.
It is my wish and desire that Louisa & her two children shall remove to Philadel-
phia & that their expenses to Philadelphia shall be defrayed out of my estate.
It is my wish that my exors shall invest in some savings institutions or stock
of the City of Philadelphia or state of Pennsylvania three hundred dollars of the above
named childrens portions subject to the control of Louisa, and that they shall pay over the
remaining one hundred dollars to Louisa for the present support of said children.
It is my wish and desire that the balance of my estate, after paying the above named legacies
and fulfilling the above requirements, & after the payments of just debts, shall be equally divided
between my children.
And lastly I constitute and appoint my friends Wm. R. Hawkins and George W.
Carroll Executors of this my last will and testament & I hereby authorize them
to dispose of my real estate if they shall think it best for the interest of my estate.
I hereunto set my hand and seal this 11th day of May 1849.

In Isle of Wight County Court Sept 3rd 1849. The last will and testament of Jos.
F. Wrenn dec'd was presented in court and proved by the oaths of Wm A. Stott
and Benja. Ward two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
And on the motion of George W. Carroll and Wm. R. Hawkins the exors
therein named, who made oath and entered into separate bonds conditioned
as the law directs (to wit:) the said George W. Carroll with Albert C. Jones
and N.P. Young his securities in the penalty of $30,000 and the said
Wm. R. Hawkins, John H. Hawkins and John Wilson his securities in
the sum of $30,000, certificates are gratned them for obtaining a probat
of said will in due form.
