In the name of God Amen, I, Pamelia Sweeny of the town of Fredericksburg
and State of Virginia, being of sound mind and knowing the great uncertainty
of life, do make this my last will and testament ---
To my niece Louisa M West I devise my house and lot in the Town of Fredericksburg
and situate on Caroline Street, my servant man Alfred, Five hundred dollars, One box of
Gilt China, all my Silver and Brittania ware, Stair Rolls, One large trunk for bed clothes,
one new yarn Counterpain, Table linens and towels, a new white Counterpain and a new yarn
counterpain, a ten dollar gold piece (American coin) One Sofa and one Mahogany Tea Table
and a small rocking chair ---
To my niece Pamelia R. West, daughter of Louisa M West, I devise the sum of Three hundred dollars,
my servant man James, Bedstead, Bed, Bolster and Pillows, Canopies, (Bases)
and white Counterpain, One set of white window Curtains, One check Bed spread One dressing Bureau
and dressing glass ---
To my nephew Richard H Phillips I bequeath the sum of Three hundred dollars, which he is indebted
to me by bond and also my gold spectacles ---
To my nephew Charles Hals Phillips son of Richard H Phillips, I devise my servant boy Robert
To my niece Sarah Jane Phillips I bequeath my Hair Mattress and travelling trunk ---
To my niece Ellen Beuton I devise the sum of One hundred dollars, and to my niece Betsy Paine the sum
of Seventy five dollars in money ---
To my niece Emily Caldwell I leave and devise Six green chairs, and my Earthen ware now in the
warehouse of Saml Phillips Also One white Counterpain, One calico bed spread ---
I wish and direct my Executor to pay to the Trustees of the Female Charity School the sum of Twenty
five dollars and I wish and direct my said Executor to appropriate the sum of Seventy five
dollars to having a tomb placed over my remains ---
I bequeath my servant woman Anna to my niece Louisa M West and also the sum of Fifty dollars
to be appropriated by the said Louisa M West to the comfortable support of the said old servant
Anna --- Nevertheless should the said servant Anna die before I do, then the said sum of fifty dollars
to be revoked --- I desire that my own Servant Littleton shall have his freedom at the expiration
of one year after my death, the hire of said servant Littleton for said one year after my death, I request
and direct shall be paid over to my niece Miss Sarah Jane Phillips --- If said servant Littleton
cannot have his freedom under the laws of Virginia, I request and direct that my Executor will place
him in a situation the most comfortable to said servant, but it is my wish and desire that the said
servant Littleton shall have his freedom in the manner before named --- To my niece Mrs
Julia Ann McGill I leave my large rocking chair --- The balance of my effects of any and every
character I wish sold by my Executor and the proceeds together with any and all of the residue
of my Estate remaining in hands (Funeral expenses and all just debts first to be paid) I wish
to be equally divided between my nephew Alexander K. Phillips and my nieces Julia Ann
McGill, Sarah J Phillips and Emily Caldwell. And I do hereby constitute and appoint
Alexander K Phillips my sole Executor to carry out my wishes in this my last Will and
Testament, and I do request that my said Executor shall not be required to give any security
for the performance of the trust reposed in him ---
As witness my hand and Seal this the twelfth day of October in the year of our Lord One
thousand Eight hundred and fifty seven -

In the Corporation Court of Fredericksburg, April 10th 1862
The last will and testament of Pamelia Sweeny decd. was proved
in Court by the oath of Robert W. Adams, one of the witnesses thereto, and Robert M Houston, the

other subscribing witness thereto, being absent from the Commonwealth of Virginia, John S.
[?Paldwill?] was sworn and testified that he was well acquatined with the handwriting of the said
Robert N. Houston & verily believed the signature of the said Robert N. Houston subscribed as a
witness to said will, to be in the genuine handwriting of the said Rob't N. Houston. Whereupon
the same is ordered to be recorded as the true last will & testament of the said Pamelia Sweeney
