This Deed made this 1" day of May 1860, betweeen Franklin Slaughter
of the one part & W.S. Barton, Jno. J. Young and Hay B. Hoomes, Trustees, of the other
part, Witnesseth that the said Franklin Slaughter, doth hereby grant unto
said parties of the second part, his negro woman Slave Nancy and her son George;
upon Trust that when the sum of Ten dollars, with interest thereon from this day
shall be paid to the said party of the first part, that the said parties of the second
part, (any one or more of who may act) shall execute a deed of emancipation
from Slavery of the said Nancy and her son, George, and of any other child and
children, she may then have.
Witness the following signatures and Seals.

County of Spotsylvania, to wit;
I, Lewis Timberlake, a Notary Public for the
County aforesaid in the State of Virginia, do certify that Franklin Slaughter
whose name is signed to the writing above, bearing date the 1" day of May
1860, has acknowledged the same before me, in my County aforesaid.
Given under my hand this 2d day of May 1860.

This Deed with the Certificate of its Acknowledgement annexed
was received in the Office, and admitted to record.

Whereas Franklin Slaughter did by deed bearing date the 1" day
of May 1860, convey to W.S. Barton, Jno. J. Young and Hay B. Hoomes, Trustees
a negro woman Slave named Nancy and her son George, Upon Trust, that
when the sum of Ten dollars, with Interest thereon from this day, shall be paid
to the said F. Slaughter, that the said W.S. Barton, Jno. J. Young & H.B. Hoomes
(any one or more of whom may act) shall execute a deed of Emancipation from

Slavery of the said Nancy & her son George, and of any other Child & Children she
may then have. And Whereas the said sum of Ten dollars has been fully paid
with interest; Now Know all men by these presents, that I, John J. Young, one of the
Trustees as aforesaid, for and in consideration of the premises, and the sum of one
dollar, have manumitted, emancipated and set free, and by these presents do manu=
=mit, emancipate and set free, the said Negro Nancy and her son George; and I do
declare them the said Nancy and George to be entirely liberated from Slavery, and
entitled to all the rights and privileges of free persons, with which it is in my power
to vest [him?].

this 5" day of September 1862.
