Know all men by these presents, that I Armistead Miller of the Town
of Fredericksburg in the State of Virginia, as well for and in consideration of the
natural love and affection which I have and bear for my son Jesse Miller ( a person
of colour) whom I purchased of Samuel Phillips as of five dollars to me in hand paid,
at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged, have manumitted, emancipated and set free, the said Jesse Miller
and by these presents, do manumit, emancipate and set free the said Jesse Miller
whom I purchased of Samuel Phillips on the 16" day of July 1836, and I do de=
=clare him the said Jesse Miller to be entirely liberated from Slavery & entitled to
all the rights and privileges of a free person, with which it is in my power to
vest him. He the said Jesse Miller hereby emancipated is a negro man of
light black complexion, about five feet, eight inches high, having a scar on his
left leg and is about twenty years old. In Testimony whereof I have hereto
set my hand and affixed my Seal this [left blank] day of February 1844.

This deed proved by the Oath of A.K. Phillips a witness
