Know all men by these presents, that I Samuel Phillips
of the Town of Fredericksburg, and State of Virginia, have
Manumitted, liberated and set free, and by these presents do
Manumit, liberate and set free, my negro man slave, named
Armistead Miller, and I do hereby declare him the said Ar=
mistead Miller, to be entirely liberated from slavery, and entitled
to all the rights and privileges of a free person, with which it is
in my power to vest him; Given under my hand and seal this
5" day of July 1836

Hustings Court of Fredericksburg, July Term 1836
The foregoing deed of manumission from Samuel
Phillips to Armistead Miller, was proved in Court by the oaths of
Geo. F. Chew & John M. Herndon, and ordered to be recorded.
