Know all men by these presents that I Richard S Hackley of the Town
of Fredericksburg in the County of Spotsylvania for and in consideration of
the past good conduct of my negro woman slave named Betty do by these
Presents Liberate Emancipate and set Free the Negro Woman Betty
and do hereby discharge her from all manner of Slavery and servitude
whatsoever and I Declare her to be in as perfect a state of Freedom and entitled
to all the privileges and advantages arising therefrom as she can legally
enjoy In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my
seal this 28th day March one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine

This Indenture of Emancipation from Richard S. Hackney to his Slave
