Text of Freedom Document

Know all men by these presents that I Godlove Huskill of
Fredericksburg and County of Spotsylvania for and in consideration of
the past good Conduct of Jack my negro man Slave do by these presents
liberate, Emancipate and set free and do hereby discharge him the said
Jack from all manner of Slavery and servitude, and declare him to be
in as perfect a state of Freedom and entitled to all the privileges and
advantages arising therefrom as he can legally enjoy In testimony
whereof I, the said Godlove Huskill have hereunto set my hand and
affixed my seal
Sign'd sealed and delivered
In the presence of} G. Huskill (seal)
At a Court of Hustings held for the Town & Corporation of
Fredericksburg the 27th day of October 1798
This deed of Emancipation from Goodlove Huskill to his
Slave Jack, was acknowledged by the said Huskill and ordered
to be Recorded
