Text of Freedom Document

Whereas George Weedon late of Fredericksburg deceased by
his last will and Testament made in writing did require, that after
the Death of his wife Mrs. Catharine Weedon, his negro man Bob should
be liberated and set free from slavery, as will more fully appear
Reference being had to the said will, as recorded in the Corporation
Court of Fredericksburg, and whereas, the said Mrs. Catharine Weedon,
hath since departed this Life, now know all men
by these presents that we Robert Patton and John Mercer of
the Town aforesaid, Executors of the said last will and Testament
of the said George Weedon, in consideration of the will aforesaid, do
hereby liberate and set free from slavery the said negro man Bob, and forever
discharge him from any farther services whatsoever that might
appurtain to him the character and capacity of a slave--
In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this
25th day of November, in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven
Humdred and ninety seven
