To all to whome these presents shall come Know ye that I
Francis Thornton (for and in conderation of the many good qualities
and fidelity of Charles Butler late the property of Mrs. Frances
Thornton deceased) have emancipated and set free the sd. Charles
Butler from me & my heirs for ever. In Witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th Day of July 1794

Charles Butler is about 40 years of age 5 feet 3 Inches
At a Court of Hustings held for the Town & Corporation of
Fredericksburg July 25th 1794--This Writting of Emancipation
from Francis Thornton to Chas. Butler was acknowledged by sd. Francis
Thornton and ordered to be Recorded
