Know all men by these presents that I James Carter of the County
of Frederick in the Commonwealth of Virginia for and in consideration of
the faithful services of my Negro man Slave named Ceasar aged about thir-
ty five years have emancipated and set free and by these presents do emanci-
pate and set free the said Negro man Ceasar, and I do hereby for myself,
my Heirs, executors and administrators relinquish all claim which I or they might
or may have to the services of the said Casar hereafter. In witness whereof I
have hereunto set my hand and seal the 3rd day of September in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one.

At a Court held for Frederick County the 3rd day of September 1821. This
Deed of Emancipation from James Carter to negro Ceasar was acknow-
ledged by the said James Carter and ordered to be recorded. And it is ordered
to be certified that the said negro Ceasar is between the ages of twenty one
and forty five years and of sound mind and body.
