Know all men by these presents that I John Hubbard of Frederick and State of Virginia
am held and firmly bound unto John Tilden and John Davenport, Members and Stewards of
the Methodist Episcopal and their successors in the Frederick Circuit and State aforesaid in the
sum of fifteen hundred pounds Virginia currency to be paid to the said John Tilden and John
Davenport and their successors in office to and for the use and benefit of the said Church I
bind myself my heirs Executors administrators and assigus firmly by these presents, sealed with
my seal and dated this 7th day of Feb 4 one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven
Whereas the above bound John Hubbard being now in possession of hte following slaves
to wit Lucey a woman and her two children, Mary aged two years and Sinah aged about
two months old, and being conscientiously principeled against perpetual slavery, do hereby
agree and oblige himself his Heirs Executors Administrators and assigus that he they and them
shall and will make use of all lawfull ways and means to emancipate Liberate and set
free the said three negro salves aforesaid at the different periods following to wit, the said
woman Lucey on the 20 day of May 1808 and the said Girls Mary and Sinah when they
severally arrive at the age of twenty five years, and further that the same ways and means
shall be made use of to liberate and set free all the future Issue and increase of the
three negroes above mentioned at the different times following viz. the Issue of the said
Lucey that may be born before the said 20th day of May 1808 the males at the age of
twenty five and the females at the age of twenty three years and also all the future Issue
and increase of the said two girls Mary and Sinah that may be born within the time of
servitude together with the Increase of all the said Negroe Lucy's future offspring, the males
at the age of twenty three and the females at the age of twenty years, and further
the said John Hubbard for himself his Heirs Executors administrators and assigus doth
hereby agree and oblige himself his heirs &c to give all the present and future Issue and
increase of the said negro woman Lucy that is or may be born during their servitude
one full years schooling between the age of ten and eighteen years old severally Now
the condition of the above obligation is such that if the above named John Hubbard his
Heirs Executors administrators and assigus shall at all times duly comply with and faithfully
perform all the articles clauses conditions and agreements above mentioned according to the
true interest and meaning thereof without fraud cover or deceit, than then this obligation
to be void and of no effect otherwise to stand be and remain in full free power and

At a Court held for Frederick County the 7th day of February 1797 This Bond was ackn-
owledged by John Hubbard party thereto and ordered to be recorded.
