Know all men by these presents that I William Moody of Fairfax County and State of Virginia for divers good causes and considerations me hereunto moving being conscientiously concerned to give and to grant to the negroes now in my possession their freedom and liberty do hereby declare them free from me and my heirs forever and from all manner of person whatsoever in the following manner: negro Harry born April 18, 1764; James born Aug’t 15th 1767; James born August 2nd 1765; Dilly born September 17th 1768; Lett born January 10th 1766; their being firm in body and mind their freedom shall commence at the date hereof. Negro Hamlet born February 29th 1783, Leartes born December 24th 1783, Leonard born February 21 1786, Henson born November 22nd 1784, Will born March 12th 1788, Thomas born March 20th 1790, Allen born January 15th 1792, Guss born September 5th 1793, Lewis born March 29 1793, Lewis born March 9th 1795, Wesley born September 23 1796, Hugh born December 30th 1796, Willy born June 12 1786, Delia born November 24th 1787, Betsy born July 5th 1789, Jenny born January 3rd 1790, Nelly born October 5 1791, Jemima born January 24th 1795. These all being sound, their freedom shall commence as they respectively arrive the males at twenty five and the females at twenty one and in case they should have issue before they arrive at the age above mentioned their children shall serve as above, the males at twenty five and the females at twenty one. I do hereby pronounce the above named negroes free to all intents and purposes according to the true meaning of these presents. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this 18th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety seven.

At a court held for Fairfax County the 18th day of September 1797, this deed of emancipation from William Moody to negroes Harry and others was acknowledged by the said William Moody to be his act and deed, and ordered to be recorded.
