To all to whom these presents shall come, I William Hartshorne of the County of Fairfax in the State of Virginia send greeting. Whereas Sarah Triplett Administratrix of Thomas Triplett late of the said County of Fairfax deceased did by her certain deed poll, bargain, and sell unto me a negro man slave belonging unto the estate of the said Thomas Triplett for and in consideration of the sum of eighty pounds by me paid unto the said Sarah Triplett, the said slave being known and called by the name of Daniel. And whereas the said William Hartshorne at the time of making the purchase of the said Daniel as aforesaid did not propose or intend to detain him in servitude for a longer term than seven years from the day of making the purchase aforesaid, the same being made on the nineteenth day of this present month February. Now know ye that I the said William Hartshorne of my own free will and voluntary indignation do by these presents release and discharge the said Daniel from all service of any kind whatsoever to be rendered unto me the said William Hartshorne, my heirs, Executors and Administrators from and after the nineteenth day of February which shall be in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight, and from and after the said nineteenth day of February one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight I do hereby manumit and emancipate the said Daniel. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this twenty fourth day of February one thousand seven hundred and ninety one.
