Whereas John M. Garnett dec’d of the County of Essex and State of Virginia did by his last will & testament emancipate and set free a certain negro slave Osbert, now therefore I M.R.H. Garnett of the said county being executor of the said will of the said John M. Garnett dec’d do ascent to the said emancipation & do hereby emancipate & set free the said negro man Osbert, as witness my hand & seal this 15th day of June 1855.

At a monthly court begun and held for Essex Count at the courthouse in Tappahannock on the 15th day of June 1855. This deed of emancipation was this day acknowledged in open court by Muscoe R.H. Garnett to be his act and deed and ordered to be recorded.
