This indenture made the 15th day of July in the year of our Lord 1799 by Lydia B. Brooke of the County of Essex in the State of Virginia witnesseth that the said Lydia B. Brooke for divers good causes and considerations her thereunto moving hath liberated, set free, and emancipated, and by these presents doth liberate, set free, and emancipate the following negro slaves Jenny, Peggy, General Pettett, and Isaac, now the property of the said Lydia B. Brooke and according to the Act of Assembly, in such case made and provided doth execute, seal & deliver this indenture in the presence of

At a court held for Essex County at Tapp. on the 15th day of July 1799. This indenture from Lydia B. Brooke for freeing and emancipating the following negro slaves to wit Jenney, Peggy, General Pettit, and Isaac, was proved by the oaths of William Waring and Robert G. Robb the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
