To all to whom these presents shall come, I Mark Andrews of the County of Essex, have this day given unto my negro man by name James Baylow which I bought of William F. Gatewood his freedom, and desire he may hereafter pass as a free man during life. Given under my hand and seal this seventeenth day of Sept. one thousand seven hundred & ninety eight.
