To all person whom it may concern. These are to certify that I John Sale Junior of the County of Caroline and State of Virginia have emancipated and set free, and by these presents do clearly and absolutely emancipate and set free a certain negro man by the name of Jack who descended to me by the last will and testament of my father Robert Sale dec’d and do warrant the liberty and freedom of him the said negro man Jack from the right, title, interest and claim of my self, my heirs, executors and admors, and from all and every other person or persons whatsoever agreeable to an Act of the General Assembly in such case made and provided. Witness my hand and seal this 15th day of Aug. 1796.

At a court held for Essex County at Tapp. on the 17th day of October 1796. This deed of emancipation from John Sale to Jack a negro man was proved by James Sale and Ro. Hill two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
