To all whom this way concerns, know ye that I Prince Taylor have bought a negro woman by name Nelly who was the property of [?Mr. Griffing Boughand?] and sold by Mr. James Sale a deputy sheriff of the county of Essex at public auction to satisfy certain claims against the said Boughand, and whereas the said Nelly, being my wife, I am disposed to put her on the same footing as myself as to freedom. Now these presents witnesseth that I the said Prince Taylor for and in consideration of my above mentioned disposition towards the said Nelly my wife do forever set free and manumit her in order that she may enjoy the same privileges as myself and other free citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and I do further by these presents warrant and defend my species of claim or claims that may be set up against the said Nelly my wife by me, my heirs, Executors, Administrators or assigus as my property. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 21st day of January 1793.
